A midwifery student of unremarkable fitness hoping to fundraise to support the work of PADA. The first week of May is Perinatal Mental Health Awareness week and PADA is hosting their Choose to Move fundraiser event. The plan is to walk/crawl up Mount Maunganui's Mauao for every $20 raised (so if $60 is raised, up and down three times), capping that at 10 trips up Mauao. Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Aotearoa (PADA) is a charity that receives no government funding. PADA supports whanau experiencing challenges with their mental health as they welcome their baby into the world through providing information and resources, hosting events to raise awareness and reduce stigma and barriers to seeking support, and training health professionals in how to better support whanau experiencing perinatal depression and anxiety. Some stats: Approximately 25% of pregnant people experience depression during or after pregnancy. 10% of fathers experince depression after the birth of their baby. The leading cause of maternal deaths in Aotearoa is suicide.
